Di Matteo placed in charge until the end of the season.

Chelsea have confirmed that manager Andre Villas-Boas has been sacked and that making a change was the club's 'only option'.
Villas-Boas only took charge at Stamford Bridge last summer following the departure of Carlo Ancelotti, but has endured a difficult time at the helm.
The former Porto coach arrived in West London with a reputation as one of the brightest managerial talents in world football, but he has been unable to replicate his past success at Chelsea.
He has seen the Blues slide out of the Premier League title race in recent weeks, while qualification for next season's UEFA Champions League is also in doubt.

Andre Villas-Boas claims Fernando Torres is having a 'tremendous' impact at Chelsea

The Chelsea boss is confident the £50m striker can end his goal drought against Manchester United on Sunday, admitting the Spaniard has been working on his movement in training

Andre Villas-Boas maintains Fernando Torres is having a 'tremendous' impact at Chelsea, despite the forward's struggle for goals since his arrival at Stamford Bridge.

Since signing from Liverpool in January last year, the Spain international has scored five times in 44 appearances and has failed to find the net since October.

But whilst admitting Torres needs to improve on his movement in order to fit into Chelsea's style, Villas-Boas claims a goal against Manchester United could be the start of a scoring run for the 27-year-old.

“Fernando has been having a tremendous team impact, we are not just looking for Fernando the goalscorer, but Fernando the team player,” Villas-Boas told reporters.

“We've been working on his movement for some time in order to adapt to how we are playing. A goal against United would of course trigger it all but even then there has to be continuity afterwards.”

Villas-Boas maintains his side will secure a place in the Champions League at the end of the season and insists his squad have more to play for this season than Sir Alex Ferguson's men, who travel to Stamford Bridge on Sunday holding a 12-point lead over their opponents.

“We should have a lot more points, it's true, and I've told the players it's unrealistic to think about the title after the irregularity of our results, the Premier League is out of the question but we are still technically in three competitions," he said.

"The two leaders are out of the FA Cup and out of the Champions League. United are playing for one major competition, we are playing for more. The Champions League is not just a wild card, it's a real objective, but of course we have first to get past Napoli.

“I don't think we'll finish lower than fourth, nor do have I any doubt I will be here next season. We have a strong belief in the current project."

The Brazilian defender, who had fallen out of favour with Andre Villas-Boas at Chelsea, is set to join the Ligue 1 leaders after passing a medical

Paris Saint-Germain coach Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that Alex will be unveiled as the club's latest signing at a press conference in the French capital on Friday afternoon.

The Brazilian defender passed a medical in the morning and, according to Ancelotti, will be officially presented to the media at 16:30CET.

"Alex will be at a press conference later," the Italian is quoted as saying by RTL. "He will be a PSG player."

PSG will reportedly pay €6 million for the 29-year-old, who has seen little game time at Chelsea since the arrival of Andre Villas-Boas as manager last summer.

"It was a good opportunity because of his price and his desire to come to PSG," Ancelotti mused.

"I know him very well. He's a fantastic player and a great guy. He has extensive experience as he played in the Dutch league, English league, the Brazil national team and many Champions League matches.

"He's a great professional and I think he will have a great season."

Although the centre-back is fit, the former Rossoneri boss revealed that he will not be thrown straight into Ligue 1 action this weekend.

"He can play and he will be here to train tomorrow," Ancelotti explained. "But he will not play in Brest [on Saturday]."

Chelsea originally signed Alex from Santos but he spent three years on loan at PSV Eindhoven before finally arriving at Stamford Bridge in 2007.
